Ecumenical Poverty Initiative is joining with the Faith for Just Lending coalition and others in the faith community to stand up for the most economically vulnerable and to stop predatory payday lenders. So many people who needed help during an emergency or to cover the costs of unexpected expenses, have found themselves spiraling into deeper debt because of payday loans with exorbitant interest rates and unreasonable repayment plans. The Consumer Protection Financial Bureau is issuing a rule that will help stop these predatory lenders from taking advantage of people when they are most vulnerable. You can help by signing on to EPI’s letter that will be submitted to the CFPB or by telling your story about an experience you had with a predatory lender and encouraging others to do the same. The deadline to submit comments is Friday, October 7th. The Bible instructs us in Proverbs 22:22 not to take advantage of the poor because they are poor. Help us bring an end to these predatory practices. Visit Faith for Just Lending’s website or click here to tell your story and find out more about harmful predatory payday lending practices.
